The good news is that drug prevention education does and is working to prevent kids from the damage of narcotics. Here are some more successes from high school students after a marijuana prevention education talk by Narconon Vancouver Society:

3) How can you use what you learned?

I can use what I learned by not taking drugs because I know what they can do to me.

Teach others who do not know what drugs do to their body. The more people aware the better

not ‘promote’ drugs

I can educate other people

I can make decisions based on what I know

avoid getting addicted & help my friends who are on drugs & inform them with the facts I learned

I can consider before falling to peer pressure by seeing the consequences

learn from other people’s mistakes so you don’t end up doing them

Encourage anyone who did drugs before to stop

Narconon’s drug prevention education talk on marijuana and other drugs is effective because the prevention talks

don’t encourage or promote drug use

don’t tell the kids what to think but lets them come up with their own conclusions

doesn’t buy into the permissive belief that kids will use drugs so get them to use safely

tells kids the truth about drugs in a fun and interesting way that they can relate to

Drug education success follow well organized Narconon drug education talks.

Narconon drug education surveys taken after one hour talk in Greater Vancouver high school indicates students found the talk interesting, very knowledgeable and learning something new. These responses came from students who had received many previous drug education talks.

Drug Education Responses

Most students didn’t know or couldn’t define what a drug was or what makes a drug a drug. Seniors high school students learn what drugs are often for the first time in Narconon drug education talks.

Students like that the drug education talk was very clear and direct and the speaker was open to questions.

One thing the students really like is that the Narconon drug education talks discuss the dangers of drugs they haven’t heard about before. Students are not told what to think about drugs in the Narconon drug education talks. Students are educated about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

Students decided to quit as well.

“I thought the (drug prevention) talk was very motivating for me to prevent myself from using narcotics. My thoughts on drugs changed from hearing this and made me think twice about how terrible drugs really are. I can use this towards my life, in party situations to not use drugs to be in the “cool” crowd”

17 year old Male, May 28, 2009

“I thought this (drug prevention) talk was great because some of my friends from my old school are getting into pot and alcohol and i found this (talk) really informative. I have always been disgusted by the thought of drugs and this talk made me understand exactly how bad they are and what they do. I learned to avoid drugs”

13 year old female, May 28, 2009

“It – the drug prevention talk – was really good and inspiring. Also, it made a much bigger impact cause the talk came from people who went through that horrible lifestyle. If someone were to approach me with drugs and was offering me drugs, i would just walk away and say no”

13 year old female, May 28, 2009

“I thought it (Drug Prevention talk) was really motivating to me to not take drugs and to stay clean for the rest of my life. Yes, it changed my thoughts largely about what I think about drugs now. I can tell others to stay away from drugs and tell them about all the trouble it can cause in their lives.”

14 year old male, May 28, 2009

“I thought it was very motivating and these stories should be told at any school. But now if I am ever offered drugs, I will look back to this day and say no.”

13 year old female, May 28, 2009

“I thought the drug prevention talk was really inspiring because I was able to witness 2 people who legitametly turned their life around.”

“Very informative! A lot of things that I didn’t know. When they were talking about their experiences it really left me speechless. I don’t think I’ll be doing drugs anytime soon!”

15 year old female, May 28, 2009

16 year old male, May 28, 2009

“I thought the drug education talk was insipiring, and I learned about the drugs in the system. The stories were particularly interesting as they show a window into the lives of drug addicts. (Now) I can help people make better decisions, and hopefully prevent it.”

15 year old male, May 28, 2009

“I thought the drug education talk was really good; their transformations were amazing. Honestly, my first thougts were drugs were bad, so my thoughts didn’t change. In fact, i believe in my thoughts more strongly now. (I learned) to stay with the people I love, and not try to fit in. Just stay with the people that liked me in the first place.”

13 year old female, May 28, 2009

“I thought this drug education talk was very informative and even though I’ve heard people always tell me don’t do drugs (before) I would just laugh awkwardly not knowing any details. I learned a lot more about it. I can use this talk as a powerful argument against people who say drugs are good.”
