Why People Use Drugs & How Drug Use Becomes A Problem

People use drugs to solve a problem, to experiment when bored, to relieve unwanted emotions or sensations and to escape.

How is doing any of those things a problem?

In a fantasy world with no responsibilities, no future to create or no consequences for inaction it wouldn’t matter what a person does to their own body. Besides, we are guaranteed by Constitutions and Bills of Rights to consume what we will.

It’s only our lives we are affecting, right? Factually, there in lies the problem. Who and what does drug abuse or drug use affect?

What are drugs?

Drugs should be defined to include pharmaceuticals such as psychotropic drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, all street drugs, even caffeine is being abused as a drug.

Why People Abuse Drugs

When a person finds no know way of alleviating unwanted pain, emotion or sensation, in a culture such as ours they will eventually find that drugs (alcohol included) will alleviate those symptoms. The current culture is providing availability of drugs to every person young, old, pregnant, crazy or sane. There are even drugs designed for babies.

Most medical doctors did not create this aberration of science. What was missing was a commonly practiced and understood and workable psychotherapy or way of alleviating the stresses of living. When no working practice exists, drugs will be abused and addiction will inevitably result.

Are You a Pharmaceutical Customer or a Patient?

The odd and even surprising fact is that most drug use, a great majority of drug use has no honest and factual diagnosis for determining the need or prescription of drugs. Ask your doctor sometime for the medical test which verifies any particular condition you may have been Rx drugs for. He or she won’t be able to give over any test for their existence. Doctors recommendations are being underwritten by drug companies insurance and even medical schools and colleges are paid for and run by pharmaceutical company programs.

Traditional Medical practice has been substituted and even sabotaged by a side tracked medical system operating out of the early 20th century on theories unsubstantiated by proper science. Instead medicine is playing servant to an empire of witch doctors licensing big pharmaceutical companies to invent pills for diseases that don’t exist.

Is Using Drugs A Problem?

With socialized medicine and health care, when one abuses drugs or alcohol they will become a burden on society. The obvious conditions people see every day:

  • car accidents involving drugs / alcohol resulting in innocent deaths, cripples, broken families, ruined lives
  • marital break ups breaking up families
  • crime and damage to property just for ‘fun’ or spite or robbery
  • hospital and emergency workers in some hospitals see mostly people who’ve abused drugs and alcohol, now sick, damaged, overdosed or chronically ill

In a socialized medical system, what happens to people with legitimate health conditions? Most of the money on health care is going to those who’ve first abused their own health through drug abuse.

Social Problems with Drug Abuse

Again, setting aside the obvious social decay that follows drug abuse in any sector of society, what happens to a society with rampant drug abuse?

Societal decay comes in many forms, but is most notable when measuring it’s absence of participation in societal activity.

Free and democratic societies, to run effectively require people, it’s citizens to participate in society. Aggressive monopolistic corporations need to held in check, governments need to be reduced in size and kept in check, legal systems must be corrected and made to run fairly, families need to be cared for.

Democratic societies require the participation of it’s citizens to be awake, alert and informed if any society can live at all. A society dumbed down by drugs is not even awake or alert enough to challenge injustice or take overs by weak leaders in government who fold to the pressure of lobbyist’s, financial sway and simply lack of knowledge about the existing scene. That scene that is observed by citizens every day.

Drug Use is a Problem in a Democratic Country

Democracy needs people of free will to steer society in a direction of survival. Wisdom, observance, guidance and even protest helps keep a country or civilization operating effectively. It’s not up to someone else to do it. There are not enough Atlases to stand as lone pillars of the community. It takes an entire country of free people to run a democracy. No one should be allowed to check themselves out of the game early and receive the benefits of the rest of the nations contributions.

Addiction, violence, civil liberties, crack cocaine, poverty, 2010 Olympics, drugs, prostitution, heroin, homelessness; and their impact on Vancouver’s Black Eye, The Downtown Eastside.

More than 2 million syringes are handed out free every year. Clean mouthpieces for crack pipes are provided at taxpayers’ expense. Around 4,000 opiate addicts get prescription methadone. Thousands come to the injection site every year.

addiction is a state in which the body relies on a substance for normal functioning and develops physical dependence, as in drug addiction. When the drug or substance on which someone is dependent is suddenly removed, it will cause withdrawal, a characteristic set of signs and symptoms. Addiction is generally associated with increased drug tolerance common usage of the term addiction has spread to include psychological dependence. In this context, the term is used in drug addiction and substance abuse problems

Impelled by the horror show of the Downtown East Side, prodded by activists and convinced by reams of academic studies, the police and city government have agreed to provide hard drug users with their paraphernalia, a place to use it and even, for a few, the drugs themselves.

The Harsh Reality of Drug Addiction

Not for the faint-hearted, this video is graphic and shocking and shows the depths of depravity that the human soul can descend to.

After 11 months of sobriety from cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and other drugs this individuals mental state has sunk to an almost animal-like existence.

2010 Homeless Champions supports The Servants of Hope Recovery House

a proven model of recovery recently acknowledged by Operation Phoenix and the Vancouver Province Newspaper

This website is dedicated to telling the stories of the unfortunate individuals living in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver in the hope that awareness of this problem will spur people to get involved, to let all levels of government know that something has to be done to alleviate this misery rooted in addiction, homelessness and depravity. To point the way to recovery from addiction, which we believe is the root of most of this situation. With the 2010 Olympics coming to Vancouver it is our mandate to record the transition and the extreme changes that are even now occurring and will continue to unfold in the Downtown Eastside.

If you give me drugs screw the shopping cart

In Vancouver alone there’s a few of us who like to hang out in the dtes, the ten shelters that are available are not quite enough. The advocates who speak on our behalf are pushing for homes houses etc. Me personally i would be happy to have a new place to rest my head after a long day pursuing my addiction, hopefully there will be soup lines and handout’s close by because i will have no money to take care of myself. As a person who takes full advantage of addiction support services which are every three feet in the dtes i have no other goal or motive in my life but to get high and stay high. I’m used to handout’s except from the dealers, they are brutal they only want the money I obtain by begging borrowing or stealing with the exception of welfare day, when the taxpayers pay the bill. What a great country why would i even think of turning my life around when everybody will give me anything i want except what i really need, which is a swift kick in the ass and a life free of addiction .That’s me homeless and addicted and living and loving your support keep it coming or Judy Graves will make a movie about me and girlfriend Wendy from the Carnegie will start a protest march, they seem to think they represent me when in reality they represent the drug dealers.
