Drug prevention education Surrey, BC

January 14, 2010

I spent the entire morning and afternoon in Surrey, BC delivering drug prevention education – and I didn’t talk about drugs for more than 1 minute!

The best and most persuasive methods of drug prevention is LIFE and finding something valuable to live for.

Surrey, BC drug prevention activities are not so much about learning about drugs, but about learning about life and ourselves. Goal setting and our emotions are one key aspect of life.

Goals & Emotions in Drug Prevention

Learning about the different emotions in life and how emotions relate to the decisions and actions one takes is drug prevention. That’s how drug prevention in Surrey, BC looked today anyway. Kids haven’t really figured out what emotions have to do with their motions or actions in achieving goals. But by helping kids connect the dots, setting goals and finding things that make one happy is an excellent crime and drug deterrent process.

You can contact Narconon Vancouver about drug prevention talks in your school or group today.

Narconon Vancouver Society - A Non-profit Society. Description of purposes and philosophy

Narconon Education

Narconon Vancouver is a registered non-profit society in Vancouver, BC. The main purposes of Narconon Vancouver are to educate people of the dangers of drugs so they no longer take them or chose not to take drugs. Secondly, Narconon Vancouver assists people who wish to get off of street drugs or dangerous psychotropic drugs.

Narconon Vancouver

Health, common sense and security are the major focuses of helping people live lives of integrity and honesty. Drug abuse and often recreational drug use leads to or is just a smaller form of escapism at the cost of mental, emotional and physical health.

In BC, Canada the health care system is a burden on the good citizens who pay into it but not so often use. Instead, individuals who chose to fool around with personal drug experimentation will be ruining their mental, emotional and physical well being. They will make themselves sick with drugs. Thereby, the health care system is unjustly taxed by irresponsible and careless drug abusers who seem to have only their concerns in mind when they smoke, snort, drink or pop themselves into oblivion.

Drug abuse is a social problem, it’s a political problem, it’s a damaging health concern. All of these factors need to be brought into the mix when sorting out solutions to drug abuse.

Primary Drug Prevention #1

Narconon Vancouver Prevention education which intervenes before drug abuse begins is the sanest and most economical method of combating a fight against stupidity and greed for personal profit. Drug abuse disconnects people from their societal responsibilities – that first responsibility is to demonstrate and set a good example for others.

Insist upon healthy actions and choices by first living them yourself. Then you’ll be able to speak with conviction when you tell someone abusing drugs, that they are ruining their own health and also taxing an over taxed health / disease care system in BC, Canada.

“I thought the (drug prevention) talk was very motivating for me to prevent myself from using narcotics. My thoughts on drugs changed from hearing this and made me think twice about how terrible drugs really are. I can use this towards my life, in party situations to not use drugs to be in the “cool” crowd”

17 year old Male, May 28, 2009

“I thought this (drug prevention) talk was great because some of my friends from my old school are getting into pot and alcohol and i found this (talk) really informative. I have always been disgusted by the thought of drugs and this talk made me understand exactly how bad they are and what they do. I learned to avoid drugs”

13 year old female, May 28, 2009

“It – the drug prevention talk – was really good and inspiring. Also, it made a much bigger impact cause the talk came from people who went through that horrible lifestyle. If someone were to approach me with drugs and was offering me drugs, i would just walk away and say no”

13 year old female, May 28, 2009

“I thought it (Drug Prevention talk) was really motivating to me to not take drugs and to stay clean for the rest of my life. Yes, it changed my thoughts largely about what I think about drugs now. I can tell others to stay away from drugs and tell them about all the trouble it can cause in their lives.”

14 year old male, May 28, 2009

“I thought it was very motivating and these stories should be told at any school. But now if I am ever offered drugs, I will look back to this day and say no.”

13 year old female, May 28, 2009

“I thought the drug prevention talk was really inspiring because I was able to witness 2 people who legitametly turned their life around.”

“Very informative! A lot of things that I didn’t know. When they were talking about their experiences it really left me speechless. I don’t think I’ll be doing drugs anytime soon!”

15 year old female, May 28, 2009

16 year old male, May 28, 2009

“I thought the drug education talk was insipiring, and I learned about the drugs in the system. The stories were particularly interesting as they show a window into the lives of drug addicts. (Now) I can help people make better decisions, and hopefully prevent it.”

15 year old male, May 28, 2009

“I thought the drug education talk was really good; their transformations were amazing. Honestly, my first thougts were drugs were bad, so my thoughts didn’t change. In fact, i believe in my thoughts more strongly now. (I learned) to stay with the people I love, and not try to fit in. Just stay with the people that liked me in the first place.”

13 year old female, May 28, 2009

“I thought this drug education talk was very informative and even though I’ve heard people always tell me don’t do drugs (before) I would just laugh awkwardly not knowing any details. I learned a lot more about it. I can use this talk as a powerful argument against people who say drugs are good.”

Olympic dreams are about striving to overcome all obstacles toward the goal of victory.
“Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will and mind. Mature teens want more real life consequences and facts about drug use. Drug functions should be simply explained. Supporting drug ed materiel should accompany prevention talks.

Troubled kids and drug abuse. Why are kids troubled? Most will indicate family problems or school. Both of these can be resolved if the youth or teen is educated by the parent to be part of the family and participate in it. Skills and abilities are key resources to develop in any growing youth to prepare them for adult life.

Why are some kids unhappy and seem ‘down on themselves or life’?

How do drugs and alcohol abuse fit into a youth’s life?

Why do kids turn to drugs and alcohol abuse as a way out of life situations? And why do kids say they are stressed out?

Youth Are Taking Responsibility For Their Families’ Problems

Young kids and teens have an innate sense of rightness. They know they depend on their mom and dad and other siblings to live well. When there is a perceived or real problem that isn’t resolved, kids often make it their problem.

Teenagers are trying to grow up as quick as possible in the best way they know how. They are also listening to their parents. When mom and dad say, “Don’t worry about money, we will deal with that. Just do well in school . . .” A kid may interpret that as, “I can’t help this family out financially and we have financial problems so I’m just a problem.”

Failure: Perceived or Real

Or, teens may have divorced themselves from being a part of the family after someone proved to them they couldn’t contribute to it. Disconnecting from the family after a real or perceived failure is quite common. They wanted to help their older brother through a problem and didn’t know how, so they feel like a failure; mom had an argument with dad about the kids so the oldest leaves home. You know?

The trick to helping kids confront and deal with these issues is by already having established an open and free flowing line of communication back and forth. Absolving kids of their inherent responsibility is not a good solution. It’s better to prepare that teen for life and living so they can:

Stand up to or confront the issue and the consequences of it

Help resolve that issue by contributing to bettering the situation, not by being invisible or disappearing

Contribute long lasting happiness and success to the family through accomplishment and development of strong character

All these actions will require encouragement and support of a sensible and sensitive parent who is present in the lives of their kids.

Tibor A. Palatinus

PS to get effective information on what kids want and need to know about drugs and alcohol so stay away from them, go to Drug Prevention Videos by Narconon.

The best Demand Reduction programs focus on health, both mental and physical. Natural health begins with an understanding of how nutrition, the body and mind all play roles in one's well being. Most won't even realize that their diet is destroying or helping their attitude and happiness. It's time to change that condition.

As a society, we can demand reduction from damaging drugs by learning how to achieve physical and mental health

Drugs and alcohol abuse are causing societal problems like violence, crime, disease and stupidity. People believed they could feel different, escape or block-out an unwanted experience. Drugs and alcohol don’t effectively do any of these things, but they temporarily change how the body and mind works.

One function of the body and mind is to be a vessel and portal to survive with, gain what pleasure and happiness we can and hopefully to share those gifts with others. Success and health are rewards for right living. Most want these gifts.

When attacked or losing in this game of survival, the body and mind tend to attempt destruction of the opposition, the problem and eventually itself when no other avenue is possible. And so individuals who are not skilled in living and are loosing, seek to destroy perceived opposition or end up destroying themselves.

Here’s The Problem:

If a person doesn’t know how and why the body feels good or bad and how to influence it in a healthy way, they look for odd solutions

Not understanding how their own mind works, people tend to shut out the unwanted communication that it relays

Having no effective solutions (they think) available to them, eventually drugs / alcohol will be offered to them as a way to change how they think and feel

Health and Food

Many destructive and unwell attitudes and mental conditions are caused by the damage caused by too much sugar, junk food and food additives like color to the delicate nutritional balance worked at by the body and mind

Most people don’t eat a natural diet. They eat and drink what’s available and food they are addicted to

People who have the nutritional education of field mice are eating nutrition-less food products and thinking it’s a good idea. These people are all around you. Many fill the jails and support groups

Simply reducing sweet things and carbs from your diet could radically improve your health attitude, intelligence and vitality

The Human Mind

The mind is mostly a stimulus response mechanism. Try thinking of a cat and not seeing a picture. Here’s the problem, whether you see a picture or not the mind is composed of dozens of recorded perceptions and evaluations of all experience and past thought

The mind thinks in differences, similarities and identities (sees things the same)

For those who aren’t very analytical when it comes to emotions or their hostilities, this presents a problem: an enemy is associated with many attributes and so, others could be judged an enemy by those same ill attributes

What if one’s family, friends or environment had attributes that triggered emotional dislike and the person acted that out? The person them self would try to restrain or attack itself or the things it thought were against it

Learning how to use one’s mind to see and create differences in situations is the high point of creativity.
Finding similarities and identical qualities has more to do with logic and evaluation.

Drugs corrupt one’s mind with false and misleading reactions to life situations. Drugs also poison the body or hijack the brain and body and put it into unnaturally stressful conditions.

Drugs Including Alcohol

Act like poisons by falsely suppressing or stimulating the body and brain into reacting in not normal ways

Hijack the body and use up or waste all the valuable nutrients stored up to make important repairs and proper function

Set off massive alerts in the brain like an allergy attack that makes people lethargic, uncaring, disconnected, violent, hateful, stupid, etc

Shut off specific feelings, emotions and perceptions

Learning about nutrition from a knowledgeable person in a nutritional, health food or other practice can lead you toward great health and happiness.

Learning about how the mind actually functions can move you toward freedom and major success.

Helping your kids learn about drugs and alcohol without promoting the use is tricky. How do you eliminate their curiosity and insure they understand how to retain their integrity? Focus on what you want.

Raising kids in today’s society is challenging. The internet is providing social media networks that open up their communications to others who may be loaded with false information or deceit. What do you do to protect them against this? Focusing on and spending time validating what you want to see more of is a great strategy.

I’ve worked for years teaching kids the truth about drugs and alcohol. I’ve discovered the biggest error in prevention efforts is that they lead in with ‘promotional’ messages about the effects of drugs and alcohol. When a parent or teacher opens up a conversation teaching kids how a drug will make them feel in a positive way, you leave a lasting impression. Minimally, that method will make them curious as to why or how drugs do that.

Instead a better approach is to lay out some of the negative, damaging or harmful effects of drugs. Focus on the short term results as kids will excuse experimenting with drugs or alcohol and justify it by saying, “I’m only trying it” or “I don’t use it much” or “It’s not a drug as it’s grown”.

The short term effects of drugs are listed in booklets called “Talking to kids about drugs”, “Drug Facts”, “Understanding addiction” and DVDs such as “Marijuana the Myth” and “The Truth about Drugs”. I recommend you get these from us to assist you in properly educating your kids about the dangers of drugs.

Validating What You Want More Of

Now for the really important news. By placing a lot of attention and emphasis on the valuable things in life and pretty much ignoring what you don’t want, you can create wonderful circumstances for your family.

Find out what your kids want to excel in and figure out intelligent and crafty ways to make these things truly rewarding to their lives and yours. Conspire with others to set them up for their success and winning in life.

Celebrating the successes of your kids is one way to focus on the positives in life. Really acknowledging their hard work and their skills in a genuine way, can produce better prevention efforts than weeks of lectures on drugs.

Vital: insure that the major reward of success or a job well done is the completion of the task, the skills learnt in doing it and the activity itself. Never make the reward more valuable than the task. Remember the pay off for you and them is the positive activity not the exchange or reward for doing it. Make sure kids do things because they are right, not for rewards.
